Big Phil

This has been a very sad week for our family. Joe's cousin, Big Phil, had a heart attack on Tuesday morning. He was dropping someone off at the airport early in the morning, said he couldn't breathe, and then said he was going out. He lost consciousness and paramedics were on the scene within moments because they were already at the airport. He was resuscitated five times and has been in the cardiac care unit of the hospital ever since. He is non responsive, not breathing on his own, and has almost no brain activity. He is having constant seizures because of the damage to the brain. Today, he will begin to be be removed from the machines that are keeping his organs working. I know many of you knew Phil, especially mom and dad, and I just want to ask everybody to pray for him to have a smooth transition from this earthly body, and pray for his family. Karen, his wife, and Philip his son are going to have a difficult time functioning without him. I have spent much of the last few days at the hospital with the family, and it is amazing how many people have been there for him. He is loved by many, but never realized it. He told his wife recently, that when he died, nobody would come to his funeral. I hope he will be able to see how loved he was from the other side. He would do anything for anybody, and for me personally, I tried to be careful when asking him for help, because he would do anything for me. He treated me like a daughter, and whenever my family would come to visit, he made sure to have a cookout. He acted like my family was his family. What a special person. He will be missed by many, and our family will be forever changed with him gone.

I remember him! What a kind and generous man! When I came to NC with mom and dad 8 yrs or so ago, I remember the cook out he did for us. That was some good southern cookin!

I am sorry to hear that this has happened and our prayers are with you and Joes family.

Love ya sis :)

May he rest in peace. I'm sure he will have a sweet transition and a wonderful reunion with those who've passed on before.

What sad news. Even though we knew his health was poor we are thankful that he has been able to remain with us as long as he has. I am grieving for him and his family. It was always a highlight of a trip to NC when we were able to see him and his family. He truley was a very good man. Please give our love and simpathy to Karen and Phillip. If we were home we would try to make it to his funeral. He will be missed!! We will pray to the family. Love Elder and sister Glen Gooch

Phil passed on today at 1:15 this afternoon with his loving family by his side. Joe was able to give him a special blessing before he left is mortal body, and when the machines were removed, he was gone quickly and quietly. Joe and I have shed many tears today.

Some of you may remember Chrystal Sanders from our ward. She has related that she saw Phil in a dream this morning, and that he told her he was alright. Chrystal is like a special link that we have to heaven. When she told me of this dream, I knew she had seen him. She is handicapped, and is so tenderhearted, and it seems sometimes the veil is very thin for her, because of her innocence. The dream she related to me is very comforting.
Thank you all for your prayers...

Shellie

I was so sad to read your post today. I've been thinking about it all day while I have been gardening and remembering his warmth and hospitality to me while I visited your neck of the woods.

It is comforting to know that he was surrounded by the ones he loved on earth and soon after comforted and surrounded by those who went before him. There were some great reunions (wonder if southern cooking is on the menu in the spirit world?) where he is.

My prayer are with you.
